
Dr. Quyen Ngo serves as Executive Director of the Butler Center for Research at the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation, where she leads the organization’s research and clinical outcomes initiatives. She plays a pivotal role in advancing strategic innovation, establishing evidence-based practices, and integrating implementation science into program development and quality improvement.
She earned her dual Ph.D. in clinical psychology and women’s studies at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where she completed her NIH/NIDA post-doctoral training followship and her Patient-Oriented Career Development award from NIH/NIAAA.
She has advanced training in mobile health technologies and health equity research. She held a faculty appointment in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Michigan Medical School before joining the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation in January of 2020.
Dr. Ngo’s research interests include trauma and violence as they relate to substance use, and use of current and emerging technologies in behavioral health research. She has conducted NIH and CDC-funded research, and has authored more than 60 peer-reviewed scientific publications and several book chapters, and continues to advocate for our most vulnerable populations.
Since joining Hazelden Betty Ford, she has grown the Butler Center from $40,000 of grant revenue to over $1 million in the first 3 years of her tenure, and has since significantly expanded internal data quality, clinical data use, and reporting. As a fully licensed clinical psychologist, she leverages her role as a clinician-researcher to bridge science and practice, ensuring high-quality and strategic use of data to inform clinical care and clinical innovations. Dr. Ngo works with a phenomenal team that shares her passion and commitment for turning research into meaningful care and improving health outcomes for all.
