Meghan Miller, PsyD, LP, Vice President of Clinical Operations, Minnesota Mental Health Clinics

What is your current role?

I currently oversee our clinical team at Minnesota Mental Health Clinics (MMHC). In this role, I work with talented clinical leaders and clinicians to ensure we are providing high-quality mental health services to the communities we serve. I have been with MMHC for eight months now and have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the whole team, growing our team and finding ways to increase access to services through innovative solutions.

Why did you join the TRUST?

I joined the TRUST roughly three or four years ago. I joined at a time in my professional development when I really needed support as a woman health care leader who was ready to grow professionally. I was seeking access to women who were a bit ahead of me in the professional path so I could learn and prepare myself for potential opportunities.

What I didn’t realize I would find is not only mentorship and guidance but also validation, compassion and empathy from a group of women who truly understand the experience of being a woman leader and the sometimes unique challenges and experiences that come along with that.

Do you serve in a role with the TRUST?

I am currently a committee member on the Leadership Development committee and have found such joy in helping shape the Mentorship Program offered through the TRUST.

What has been your favorite part of being a TRUST member?

I have really enjoyed attending the Well-Being Retreat, learning and having uninterrupted time with other women who have a shared experience. I have also really enjoyed being a part of the Mentorship Program in many different roles. This program is one of our greatest supports to members of the community, and it has been such a pleasure seeing so many people thrive as mentors and/or mentees!

What one word would you use to summarize what the TRUST means to you?

Connection.

What is the best career advice you’ve received or the best mentoring experience you’ve had?

Diane Nanstad was my mentor in the TRUST Mentorship Program. She offered me so much support at a time when I was lacking confidence professionally—and she would often tell me: Be Bold! I carry that advice with me still when I am feeling a bit on shaky ground.

How do you support other women in their leadership journey?

I have found that mentoring young women leaders who are growing in their careers is a place I gain a lot of joy and energy. Not only do I enjoy offering lessons I have learned, shedding light on resources or research that may help them develop their leadership skills, but I also like to create space for conversations less explored like the challenges of being a working mom, confronting sexism in the workplace, identifying ways in which we are socialized as women and how that presents in the workplace. I find that speaking the unspoken is sometimes the greatest gift we can give to others.

What do you love the most about the health care industry?

I genuinely believe I was meant to help people and that is truly my vocation. The health care industry provides me a space to do that in a way that can have great impact on a community.

What’s one thing you can’t live without?

A place to cook! My stress relief is cooking fun and new meals for my family and listening to my kids build a case for why I should try out for the show Chopped!

Words of wisdom to live by? Everyone is doing the best they can, in the moment they are in, with what they have.
