Sarah Torres

What’s your current role?

I have been with Prime Therapeutics for roughly 10 months. As Program Director, Medicare, I drive strategy within the Networks Management team related to our Medicare book of business.

When did you join the Women’s Health Leadership TRUST and what roles have you held within the TRUST?

I joined the TRUST nearly two years ago. I was working for an organization where I felt a bit isolated and hoped to find an avenue to connect and reconnect with other women professionals in the area. I recalled from working at Hennepin Healthcare that several colleagues were a part of the TRUST and decided to join.

Do you currently serve in a TRUST role?

I’m in my second year serving on the inaugural Associate Board. My role on the Associate Board is Co-Chair for the Well-being Retreat.

Do you have a favorite TRUST memory so far?

My favorite part of being a member of the TRUST is, by far, networking. I’ve met many incredible women and learned so much from hearing about their unique experiences. I’ve established relationships with fellow TRUST members that will be life-long.

What one word summarizes what the TRUST means to you?

The word I would use to summarize what the TRUST means for me is community. The network of TRUST members I’ve encountered has provided me with tremendous support, personally and professionally.

What is the best career advice you’ve received?

I’m fortunate to have had formal and informal mentors within the TRUST. I don’t think I could pinpoint a specific experience; I’d say that all the mentors have been generous with their time, knowledge and experiences. They’ve provided open and honest feedback and served as my sounding board and brainstorming partners when faced with challenges or tough decisions.

How do you support other women in their leadership journey?

I try to make myself as available as possible when a fellow professional reaches out seeking advice or talking about where they are in their leadership journey. I also do my best to promote and recognize the talents and achievements of those around me.

What do you love the most about the health care industry?

I love the constant and continuous opportunity for improvement. A common theme in all of the positions I’ve held throughout my career is process improvement, and it’s an aspect of my work that’s always driven me and motivated me to continue.

How do you maintain or improve your health and well-being?

As a single mom and busy professional, I’ve learned throughout the years that I must make time for physical activity. Without it, I suffer physically and mentally. I love trying new modalities outside my comfort zone while relying on favorites like Peloton rides.

Words of wisdom you live by?

I love my Peloton! One instructor, in particular, has helped me with my mindset just as much as she kicks my backside – Jess Sims. One of my favorite quotes of hers is, “You are a masterpiece and work in progress, both at the same time. It’s the power of the and.” This speaks to accepting where I am today, recognizing the good in me, and acknowledging that I will strive to improve.
