Director Software Engineering, Optum

What do you do in your current role?

I started my journey with Optum 14 years ago as Associate Engineer. In my current role, I’m responsible for delivery of engineering services related to our clinical platform. I really enjoy building smart resources for health care.

How long have you been with the TRUST and what do you love about it?

I’ve been a TRUST member since 2021. I joined the organization to learn more about other women leaders in the community and be inspired by their stories.

Do you have a favorite TRUST memory so far?

There are many memories from the past year with the TRUST. I especially loved all of the programs with fellow women leaders. One fond memory is the book club event by Linda Brandt on the book, “Lean In.” As part of that book club event, I thoroughly enjoyed the discussions from many women who shared their challenges.

How has a mentor helped you the most?

My mentor is a very respectable and wonderful person who made me realize my inner strengths. This mentor guided and empowered me to be a leader. I was so comfortable sharing my personal and professional details with that person.

What is the best career advice you’ve received?

Networking is very important, which helps in career progression. Believe in your strengths and do not become victim to the fear of being judged.

What support do you need now to evolve your development as a leader?

We need mentors at every stage and step in our lives and careers. This helps empower ourselves and boost our self-confidence. The feeling of being valued and being trusted will make you do wonders. I need this support throughout my life to be peaceful and successful.

How do you support other women in their leadership journey?

I have grown up doing things I like to do, whether being the first girl in the family riding motor bike at the age of 16, the first mechanical engineer in the family or the only woman in an engineering class of 60 men. Throughout the journey, I received support from many people. I would like to provide similar support to all women, empower them to do what they like and provide guidance in achieving their goals.

How do you cope with the demanding aspects of your career?

Empathy, discipline and values are the best aspects of the culture. I truly practice and set the same culture in my team.

How do you maintain or improve your health and well-being?

I am a strong believer of the proverb “health is wealth.” I need a lot of discipline and determination in following health principles, so eating healthy and working out are part of my daily routine.

Who inspires you?

Mother Nature.
