Gurpreet Kaur, Director of Pharmacy Services, United Family Practice Health Center

What is your current role?

United Family Medicine is a FQHC clinic and focuses on improving the well-being of the community which includes providing excellent care to patients with no health coverage or ability to pay. For the past two years, I have been working on expanding the clinical and pharmacy services for our patients. In my role as a Director of Pharmacy services, I am leading the establishment of our outpatient pharmacy. A key part of my role is to also establish and manage a MTM program and oversee all aspects of the organization’s 340b program. I’m grateful to have had the support and encouragement to grow as a leader in an organization whose mission I strongly believe in.

Why did you join the TRUST?

I joined the Women’s Health Leadership TRUST at the suggestion of Sarah Torres in May 2023. My goal is to learn from other women leaders in the field and to expand my professional network.

What has been your favorite part of being a TRUST member?

I really appreciate the different platforms such as networking events, mentorship opportunities, and access to valuable resources, trust can provide for the professional development of their members.

What one word would you use to summarize what the TRUST means to you?

Empowerment. The Women’s Health Leadership TRUST provided me with a sense of belonging, support, and empowerment. It’s fun to share experiences, challenges and successes with others who have similar backgrounds and aspirations.

What is the best career advice you’ve received?

Embrace failure and learn from it: Don’t be afraid to take risks and learn from your mistakes. Failure can be a stepping stone to growth and resilience. Embracing it as a learning opportunity can help you overcome challenges and achieve greater success.

How do you support other women in their leadership journey?

I will encourage women to invest in their professional development. Share resources, recommend training programs, workshops, and conferences that can enhance their skills and knowledge.

What do you love the most about the health care industry?

Working in health care provides a unique opportunity to have a positive impact on people’s lives. Whether directly caring for patients, conducting research, developing new treatments, or implementing health care policies, professionals in the industry play a crucial role in improving health outcomes and making a difference in the well-being of individuals and communities.

How do you maintain or improve your health and well-being?

I strive for a healthy balance between work, personal life, and leisure activities. I love spending time with my kids, Savera and Shivaan. ​Occasionally, I take some time out for myself and listen to meditation music, it helps in relieving my stress.
