Lisa L. Saul, MD, MBA

President, Mother Baby Clinical Service Line, Allina Health

What’s your current role?

I joined Allina Health as a perinatologist 17 years ago. For the last nine years, I have led the Mother Baby Clinical Service Line, responsible for provider practice operations, maternal safety and quality initiatives, and patient experience.

When and why did you join the Women’s Health Leadership TRUST?

I joined the TRUST several years ago, and took a hiatus while obtaining my MBA. I rejoined the TRUST in 2020 and joined the Board of Directors in 2021. I joined the TRUST to meet amazing women in health care and expand my network. I chair the IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access) committee. I am excited to see what the Power of Us can unleash!

What is the best career advice you’ve received?

Don’t ask for permission. Ask for forgiveness.

How do you cope with demanding aspects of your career?

Three years ago, I stopped opening my computer and accepting work phone calls at night. I realized that work waits, and is best done fresh. It was incredibly freeing, and served me well when I started working from home. By drawing boundaries, I am more efficient and present at work, which allows me to be fully present at home for my family. My hope is that I am modeling that balance for my children—they are always watching!

Do you have words of wisdom that you live by?

I came across a quote the other day I liked:

If there is ever an answer you seek,
Remember that is already within you,
Waiting to be discovered.
Tune in-
And it will clearly appear.
