Jennifer Moebius, MBA, Senior Planning & Business Development Consultant, Gillette Children’s

What is your current role?

As a Senior Planning & Business Development Consultant, I drive strategic growth by analyzing market trends, identifying opportunities, and developing new programs or partnerships. I collaborate with leadership and clinical teams to design initiatives that align with organizational goals and ensure financial sustainability. My role involves strategic planning, project management, and performance evaluation to enhance patient-focused services and maintain a competitive edge. I have had the opportunity to serve the Gillette Children’s community for six years as of this March.

In 2024, I was the Outreach Lead for the St. Paul Area Chamber YPro Committee. In 2025, I am the Vice Chair for the ACHE MN (American College of Healthcare Executives) Education Committee.

Why did you join the TRUST?

In December of 2021, I joined the TRUST after Gillette’s CEO, Barbara Joers, recommended the TRUST mentorship program. I had missed the mentorship application process for 2022 but participated in 2023. Everyone has been so welcoming and willing to provide advice that I’ve remained with the TRUST ever since!

What has been your favorite part of being a member of the TRUST?

I am continually inspired by the genuine warmth and camaraderie of the women at TRUST events. The positive culture and strong sense of community are what draw me back year after year to renew my membership. The events themselves are not only engaging but also incredibly relevant, with the Well-being Retreat being my favorite!

What is the best career advice you’ve received?

In the words of my mother, “You’ll never know if you don’t ask. The worst response you can receive is no.” On several occasions, new programs or opportunities have come to life because I was bold enough to pitch a new concept. Sometimes, the answer has been no, but a year later, the answer shifts to yes!

Can you share a pivotal moment in your career that significantly influenced your leadership style or professional path?

Tim Getsay, Executive Vice President of Performance and Integration at Gillette Children’s, is a master strategist and influencer. He saw potential that I did not, but I took a chance on his recommendation and it opened up an entirely different side of healthcare administration that I find incredibly rewarding and fun. Due to this, I met Kristina Belk, the Director of the PMSO team at Gillette (Performance Management Strategy Office), who has significantly altered my approach to leadership and work-life balance in the most positive ways imaginable. I am forever grateful for their foresight and investment in who I am, as both a person and a contributor at Gillette. I plan to continue paying it forward for years to come!

How do you foster innovation and creativity within your team or organization?

To foster innovation and creativity within a team, I often provide a topic and ask individuals to develop their ideas independently. I frequently use a tool called Mural, which allows participants to input their thoughts both anonymously and keep notes private until the facilitator reveals them. Once all ideas are submitted, they are revealed for group discussion. I value this approach because it ensures that everyone’s unique perspectives are captured, avoiding the tendency toward group think.

The process encourages further brainstorming, as seeing others’ ideas often sparks new trains of thought. Mural also offers interactive features, such as voting and adding visual indicators, allowing team members to collaboratively refine ideas. The result is a dynamic exchange of ideas, meaningful conversations, and the inclusion of every voice.

P.S. I promise that Mural isn’t paying me to advertise their solution! It’s just that good!

How do you advocate for inclusion, diversity, equity and access (IDEA) within your organization or in the broader health care community?

At Gillette Children’s, I had the privilege of founding a Mental and Emotional Health Employee Resource Group (ERG), driven by my deep passion for fostering open conversations about mental health. I believe that no one should struggle in silence, and it’s through walking in community together that we create a culture of support, understanding, and resilience.

This work aligns closely with our organization’s commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity, and access. By addressing mental health, we break down stigmas and ensure that every individual feels seen, valued, and supported. Creating spaces for open dialogue promotes a sense of belonging and empowers team members from all backgrounds to thrive – mentally, emotionally, and professionally. This ERG, MERG, is a step toward ensuring equitable access to resources and fostering a more inclusive environment where everyone can contribute their full selves to our mission.

What is something that not many people know about you?

I completed both my undergraduate degree in Accounting and my MBA while working full-time, a journey that offered the unique opportunity to immediately apply learnings in real-time within the workplace. This experience not only deepened my understanding but also required a significant amount of computer time each day. As a result, I developed a work super power – the ability to transcribe discussions in real time! This skill has proven invaluable for fostering clarity and collaboration when I lead strategic initiatives.

Words of wisdom to live by?

My motto is to build others up, whether it be in life or work. Everyone wins when each of us are seen, are lifted up to perform at the peak of our various skill sets, and celebrated. It results in a beautiful concert of people performing in unison towards a common goal, each with their own gifts.
