Rajni Shah, OD, Head of Strategic Partnerships, MyMeds
What is your current role?
I currently serve as the Head of Strategic Partnerships for MyMeds, a Minneapolis-based digital health company that is focused on changing health care through real-time actionable insights. I lead all engagement and partnership efforts with clients, integration partners and research institutions. However, as anyone who has worked at a startup knows, I wear several hats on any given day. My role allows me the opportunity to use both my clinical and operational skills. I have been with MyMeds for 10 years.
Why did you join the TRUST?
I joined the Women’s Health Leadership TRUST six years ago. I was first introduced to the TRUST by a dear friend, mentor and longtime member. I shared with her my frustration of not having a network of like-minded women, especially in the med-tech space, to lean on and learn from. She immediately introduced me to the TRUST.
What is your role within the TRUST?
I currently have the honor to serve on the board of the TRUST. I am also the vice-chair of the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access (IDEA) Committee and a member of the Programming Committee.
What has been your favorite part of being a TRUST member?
Getting to know the women in this organization. I have met some of the most dynamic and inspiring women whom I am proud to call my friends.
What one word would you use to summarize what the TRUST means to you?
Belonging.
What is the best career advice you’ve received?
The best career advice I received from a wise mentor is, “If you are given the opportunity to be invited to the “table” don’t ask why you are there or whether you should be there. Instead, take advantage of having a seat and make the most of the opportunity in front of you.”
How do you support other women in their leadership journey?
I support other women by being accessible. I am always available to listen and help in any way I can. I know how challenging it can be to navigate the world as a woman of color. I would not be where I am without the support of mentors and friends, and I hope I can do the same.
What do you love the most about the health care industry?
What I love most about the health care industry is that there is so much opportunity for disruption and improvement. It is a great time to see how innovation and technology can impact health equity.
Words of wisdom to live by?
“I have become my own version of an optimist. If I can’t make it through one door, I’ll go through another door – or I’ll make a door. Something terrific will come no matter how dark the present is.” ~ Rabindranath Tagore
