SUMMARY:Healthcare: Minnesota Demographic Trends and Implications for Minnesota’s Health
DESCRIPTION:  \nDate: Friday\, November 11\, 2022 \nTime: 12:00 – 1:00 PM \nLocation: Zoom \nSusan Brower will provide an overview of key demographic trends and long-term projections for Minnesota total population\, by age\, gender\, race and ethnicity; as well as labor force projections for the state. This presentation will provide you with the opportunity to better understand the State’s demographics and supply information that you and your organization need in order to make smart strategic and operational decisions for the organization. \nWe will also have an opportunity for questions and discussion regarding the implications of the State’s demographic trends for your organization and for health in Minnesota. \nAbout the State Demographic Center (SDC):\nThe SDC serves as an official liaison to the U.S. Census Bureau. The SDC assists with education\, outreach\, and promotion related to each decennial (10-year) census\, to ensure the fullest and most accurate count of Minnesota’s population for the purposes of congressional representation and redistricting.\nExcept for the years when decennial censuses are conducted\, the SDC creates independent estimates of population and households for most communities\, counties\, and the state as a whole. The SDC adopts the estimates produced by the Metropolitan Council for the seven-county Twin Cities metropolitan region. \nThe SDC independently produces a variety of projections\, including long-term projections for Minnesota by age\, gender\, race and ethnicity; total population projections for counties and economic development regions; as well as labor force projections for the state as a whole.\nFurthermore\, the SDC analyzes and distributes data from the federal and state government and other sources to monitor key trends\, especially in the areas of economics\, education\, fertility\, workforce\, health\, immigration\, income and poverty. \nThe SDC is often called upon to inform policy-making and planning efforts at the State Capitol\, state agencies and beyond. The State Demographer and other staff members of the SDC regularly provide insight to media contacts writing about demographics trends and present to audiences around Minnesota\, reaching more than 4\,000 listeners each year. \nThe State Demographic Center assists policymakers\, state and local governments\, businesses\, nonprofits\, the media\, and all Minnesotans locate and understand the demographic data they need to make smart decisions. \n  \nAbout Susan Brower\, Minnesota State Demographer\nSusan Brower is the Minnesota State Demographer and directs the MN State Demographic Center. Susan became the State Demographer in February 2012. In that capacity\, she travels the state talking with Minnesotans about the new social and economic realities that are brought about by recent demographic shifts. Susan’s work applies an understanding of demographic trends to changes in a range of areas including the state’s economy and workforce\, education\, health\, immigration and rural population changes. \nSusan joined the State Demographic Center after working as a researcher on the Minnesota Compass project at Wilder Research in St. Paul. Prior to that\, she worked at the Population Studies Center at the University of Michigan.\nSusan earned her Ph.D. in sociology at the University of Michigan\, specializing in demography and family sociology. She also holds a master’s degree in public policy from Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota. \n  \n\n**This is a TRUST Members only event \n\nThank you to our TRUST 2022 Corporate Sponsors: UnitedHealth Group | UnitedHealthcare | Optum\, \nBlue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota \nHealthPartners Park Nicollet
